Join us for an evening of musical magic and mayhem…

These two musical couples have been performing together in the Bay Area nearly every year since 2001, when Newlon and Martin reconnected through the magic of the Yahoo! search engine, after more than twenty years. The two met in Aspen in the late 1970s when folk and country rock were exploding in the mountains of Colorado.

Fast forward all those twenty years – which brought ten top ten hit songs for Martin and his own reconnection and marriage to Jan Garrett (long-time diva of the Colorado Rockies music scene), through Newlon’s rediscovery of his musical passion and his marriage to Bev Barnett. The synergy between these two musical couples sizzles with the immediacy of the moment and sustains with the grace of the years.

Join us for a magical musical evening in Santa Cruz on Saturday August 27.

About Jan Garrett & JD Martin
www.Garrett-Martin.com

JD Martin is an acclaimed songwriter of 5 Number One and 10 Top Ten country and pop hit singles. His songs have been recorded by such luminaries as Reba McEntire, Terri Clark, B.J. Thomas, Peter Cetera (from the band Chicago), and the Oak Ridge Boys.

Jan Garrett is a jazz singer, master vocal coach, poet, wilderness vision quester, meditation student, and (yes) certified laughing instructor who has toured with John Denver, Steve Martin and the Dirt Band. She has appeared on the Tonight Show and the Rolling Stone.

For the past 4 years they have won top honors at the Positive Music Awards, and “Indie International” songwriter competitions.  Last year they were awarded the “Seal of Excellence” by the Positive Music Association.

About Bev Barnett & Greg Newlon
www.BevAndGreg.com

The Santa Cruz Sentinel says Bev Barnett & Greg Newlon “take
a sophisticated approach to their contemporary Folk and Americana.”
Ronn Owens of KGO Radio San Francisco just says “wow, that’s smooth!”

Jumping the lines between acoustic soul and folk rock, Bev Barnett & Greg Newlon create a place where you can relax in the comfort of the groove – and know you’re going to leave smiling and just a little more hopeful. The first thing you’ll notice is the blend of their voices, along with a rhythmic guitar that drives a compelling tension and release. Greg’s guitar pushes – Bev’s voice pulls, together creating lyrics and harmonies that explore life, love and the pursuit of something real.

Building on a background of performing jazz, classical and American contemporary music in the woodwind section, Bev has a gift for delivering the essence of a song. Her voice has been called angelic – but with the ability to ‘turn down the sheets.’ She is, above all, a hopeful creative. A soulful communicator. A passionate songwriter.

Newlon’s guitar encircles the song as he finds his way between the notes with fluidity and strength. His guitar and vocal arrangements are the result of a long and varied musical journey from his rock beginnings combined with a background in musical theatre and barbershop, to the country rock sound of Aspen in the late 1970s and more recently through blues, country and modern folk. All of these influences have shaped his unique, contemporary acoustic style.

About Bev Barnett
